The Comedian, 2005
Oil on canvas
48 by 64 inches
This painting was in a group show somewhere, and possibly another show in Los Angeles at the time, and was sold from my studio. I don't remember.
I started doing the Chris Farley paintings around 2000, maybe directly after leaving art school. I was stuck on how much his death resembled his most famous physical comedy bit.
I lost count of how many Chris Farley paintings I made, but they basically echoed frustrations I had with mining my own gimmicks at the time each was made. I made the last of these paintings during the pandemic. I'm not here to exploit someone else's pain, and I haven't been bound by gimmicks in a very long time.
